Duithape, an Indonesian fintech company, recently won the Global Sankalp Award in Financial Inclusion, at the Sankalp Global Summit 2020 held this November. Sankalp Awards is one of the most prestigious impact enterprise awards in the global south that brings together, supports and honors promising enterprises tackling key development challenges. Duithape was awarded the honors after having evaluated more than 800+ participants worldwide.
The theme of the Sankalp Global Summit 2020 is to look at the Entrepreneurial Renaissance. Sankalp believes entrepreneurs are the driving force that can transform unprecedented challenges into new playing fields; to change civilization towards a paradigm that balances profit with the good of a collective society. And Sankalp wants to recognize the work of entrepreneurs who have built new systems, supportive ecosystems, which provide the right resources and environment for entrepreneurs to thrive and design a new world, a new movement to drive massively collective change, shared and valued by all.
Duithape provides e-payments to the unbanked and it has managed to grow a staggering 50X during the Covid-19 pandemic. They have achieved this by digitally distributing aid to people in need via local small shops that serve as distribution points. So during this time of crisis, Duithape has not only benefited the poor by distributing aid accountability, but they do this while boosting the local economy by doubling and tripling sales of small shops whose sales have plummeted due to Covid-19.
Duithape has helped clients such as World Vision, MasterCard, HSBC, and DOW to be able to distribute aid to the less fortunate. The recipients only need to come to the local neighborhood store, show their faces, and enter a PIN to receive aid. No card or cellphone needed.
Going forward, Duithape wants to do this more broadly. Not only for the distribution of aid, but also to digitally make other mass payments to the bottom of the pyramid which is mostly still done in cash. Duithape can provide a solution to organizations/companies/governments that have difficulty in making payments such as payment to suppliers who are MSMEs/small farmers, or banks that have difficulty distributing/collecting micro loans, or payroll to unbanked workers. Duithape hopes by winning the Sankalp Awards, they will be able to collaborate with more change-makers and investors who are in line with their mission and prospective clients to be able to create greater impact.
